Ever since Emy moved to my hometown in first-grade, we have been best friends. Being a year ahead in grade-level did not stop us from hanging out all the time. Emy has seen me through almost all my phases in life and vice versa. When me and Emy hang out, we usually end up talking more than anything else. One of the things I value most about Emy as a friend is that she is an amazing listener. Sometimes I don’t like to share things with people because I know it will go in one ear, and out the other. However, I can always count on Emy to be all ears if I am talking to her. During some of my hardest trials it has been so nice to have someone to talk to outside of my family.
One of the reasons I know that Emy is a good listener is because she paraphrases. If I say something, she will repeat part of what I said in return before giving her actual response. This shows me that she truly is hearing the words I say. Emy also gives good eye contact and nods her head while I am talking. All of these things are proof she is a good listener. This is a great example of the positive communication in our friendship. There is not much negative communication, but of course with every relationship comes hiccups here and there. I am overall thankful to have Emy to teach me the value in being a good listener so that I can be that for others.
